2006 Beginner 2
A Day at Beginner 2

Upon arriving at Beginners 2 you will be greeted with a pleasant and energetic staff. Ready to answer any questions you may have and put all your concerns to rest.

Camper staff ratio usually runs an average 2 campers to 1 staff member. We try to put 4 to 6 campers per counselor. The campers are housed in a rustic yet comfortable cabin. In no time the campers feel right at home. No need to worry mom the boys and girls are housed separately.

Our Staff consists of the wonderful counselors who spend all their time with the campers. Cooks who feed us delicious meals and snacks to keep our energy going. Teachers who stimulate our minds and souls with spiritual uplifting lessons they have prepared for us. A Nurse who takes care of us when we are feeling bad and gives us our medicine when we need it. We also have a support staff that keeps our kitchen clean and bath houses tidy for us.

The cooks prepare fun meals and snacks. Some examples of our breakfast are Breakfast pizza, French toast, Pancakes, Biscuits and gravy and fresh fruit just to name a few and for those who just want cereal there is usually 3 to 4 different kinds to choose from. Lunch’s are like hot dogs, chicken nuggets, mac & cheese with little smokies and maybe a fruit Kabob for dessert. Suppers are like Lunch’s only served later in the day like walking tacos, spaghetti, nachos, hamburgers with fresh fruits and vegetables. And don’t forget the all important snack served in the afternoon between lunch and supper. We all know what that is.

We start our day of by rising at 7:30am and clean our cabins for the daily inspection. When the bell rings we gather by the flag pole to raise the flag and thank God for the restful night and beautiful day. Then we do fun calisthenics to prepare us for the day until the cooks have breakfast ready for us.

After breakfast we all pitch in to keep the camp clean and tidy with work details such as picking up the trash, raking the beach to keep the weeds down, sweeping the mess hall and chapel.

We then meet in the chapel and exercise our voices by singing lots of camp songs. When the bell rings we go to our classes.

We have a variety of classes such as Bible, Nature/Waterfront and Craft.

In Bible class we learn about God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit with fun activities to do which help us in learning.

Nature/Waterfront we learn about water safety and how to canoe along with learning what Poison Ivy looks like so we can stay away from it.

Our craft teachers always have fun things planned that go along with the theme to help the campers remember what they have learned in Bible class. Like stepping stones, wind chimes, friendship bracelets just to name a few.

Mail call is the high light for most of the campers. They love to receive letters and packages from home. It lets the camper know that mom and dad are thinking about them and they also like to show and tell what they have received.

In the after noon we have a time set aside for the girls to go swimming and the boys do canteen and a tractor ride. Then when the boys swim the girls get to do canteen and the tractor ride.

Evening activity consist of the whole camp playing together either on the flag field playing ball or in the water with crazy Olympics. We have a canoe races which the campers seem to enjoy the most. There are some campers who would prefer not to canoe and they then are our cheerleaders for the ones who do.

We end out day with a snack and campfire to mellow out and reflect back on the wonderful day we have been blessed with and also to share what we have learned about our wonderful creator. Then it’s back to our cabins to get ready for bed. The lights go out at 9:45pm.

We also like to let the cabins have one night where they can have a cabin party with popcorn or pizza in their cabins. They will play games or read bedtime stories most generally it is something that is just too fun.

On our last day we try to put together a short slide show of what we did in the past three days to show the parents what a great time we had learning about God at our closing chapel. We also present the campers with an award from the canoe races and even some campers will receive a special award depending on if they were good, caught smiling, having a good time or spreading cheer to another person.

This tells a little bit about what goes on during Beginners 2. Our session is so packed full of fun it is hard to put it all down on paper. The best way to really get a feel for a Beginners session is to go, spend the 3 days and see for your self just how much fun it really is.
