About Nebraska Youth Camp

DIRECTIONS TO CAMP
Here is a "How to get to Camp" Map and directions.

Nebraska Youth Camp is an organization of Christians who joined together in the early 1960's to provide opportunities for young people to enjoy camping in a Christian setting. In 1965, the "Trail Junction" campsite, near Kearney, Nebraska, was acquired. The campsite is just north of Fort Kearny where the Oregon Trail, the Oxbow Trail, the Nebraska City Cut-Off and the Pony Express Trail came together.

Trail Junction is a sixty acre area of light woods which is bordered on one side by the Platte River. It contains a five acre lake with a sand beach, a dining hall/lodge, 2 staff cabins, 11 camper cabins, shower house, craft cabin, 2 covered picnic shelters, basketball court, soccer field, 8 campfire sites and numerous hiking and tractor trails.

NYC provides 8 weeks of youth camping each summer at Trail Junction along with several activities for families. Members of the Churches of Christ from around the Midwest have weekend retreats throughout the camping season.

The camp is governed by fifteen directors who are chosen by the general camp membership at its annual meeting in September.

Mission Statement

The mission of Nebraska Youth Camp is to provide God's people a wholesome environment, recreation and instruction in the knowledge of God's word in order to strengthen their walk with God.

To fulfill these objectives, the Board of Directors shall arrange appropriate activities, under the guidance and supervision of Christians, during the course of each year for the Nebraska area.

What to expect

Mornings at camp are generally devoted to various classes: Bible, crafts, nature and singing. In the afternoons, activities such as softball, volleyball, archery, soccer, swimming, canoeing, hiking, and others are scheduled. Evenings are filled with group games, campfires, and devotionals. Schedules for the middle Saturday & Sunday vary for Junior, Intermediate and Senior.

Campers are expected to keep their personal belongings in order & their cabins clean. Crews are assigned on a rotating basis to clean the restrooms, dining hall, chapel, grounds and other jobs.

A first aider or nurse will be on the campgrounds to provide care and to distribute medicine to any camper using prescription or non-prescription products. Since all medicines must be in a locked area, please be prepared to turn any in at Registration. Campers are covered on a secondary basis by the camp's health & accident insurance.

There are no laundry facilities on the campground. One-week campers should not need any done. Staff will do necessary laundry for two-week campers on the weekend or parents may make arrangements for any laundry needs.

All money is deposited in a personal canteen account. Please have it with you (not packed). Snacks can be purchased at scheduled times in limited amounts. Postage can also be purchased. Balances are refunded at the session's end. We suggest a limit of $20 per week.

Mail is sent and received daily at camp. A cheerful letter from home can help campers adjust to a new situation. Mail should be addressed to:

    Camper's Name
    c/o Nebraska Youth Camp
    65 Sweetwater Ave.
    Kearney, NE 68847

The camp phone is for business and emergency use. Please do not call your camper or expect calls from them except for emergencies. No collect calls, please. The NYC phone number is 308-236-8889.

Please plan visits to avoid taking the camper from a scheduled activity. Evenings, or the middle weekend of a two week session, are usually the best. Visitors are asked to check in with a staff member upon arrival. Meals may be obtained at the dining hall for $3 for adults, less for children. The camp does not provide for overnight visitors.
